Former England captain Stuart Pearce has heaped praise on Arsenal defender Miles Lewis-Skelly as he continue to develop.

The 18-year-old academy product proved a revelation at left-back last season under manager Mikel Arteta and has recently signed a new long term contract with the side as he proves his loyalty to the Gunners who will be hoping to see him continue his development this season.

Lewis-Skelly is the latest graduate from Arsenal’s Hale End academy to cement his position in their first-team squad and despite only full Premier League debut in December. He made 39 appearances for the North London side last season, showing a maturity rarely seen in such a young player.

Pearce is one former player who has been very impressed by the teenager as he spoke to BestBettingSites.co.uk about how no other player compares to the England international.

"Off the top of my head, there's very few that are much better than Myles Lewis-Skelly, if I'm being quite honest with you.  He's got room for improvement. Year on year you expect him to get a lot better.

“Arsenal have got a great reputation when it comes to developing left backs. I had to play understudy to Kenny Sansom. And then after that, Ashley Cole obviously developed as an outstanding left back for them.

“Myles has been playing for one of the best sides in the Premier League, so I think he's as good as most."

Lewis-Skelly also became the youngest player to score on his England debut when he found the net in their 2-0 win over Albania in March. Arteta will hand the youngster another chance to shine this weekend as Arsenal face Leeds United after their 1-0 win over Manchester United in their first fixture.
