“I thought we were really good in the first half and for the 15 minutes in the second half," said Parker. “But then we just fell away.

“We let ourselves down and the game got away from us, like it has on many occasions this season.

“When the first goal went in for them, you could see us fall away. You can’t fold like we did in that final 30 minutes.”

Parker also stated: “We deserved what we got in the end.

“The players gave their all, they were foot to the floor, but we just didn’t have the quality over the 90 minutes. We’ve failed this season, that’s clear for everyone to see.

“We’ve fallen short. The levels of what we need to bring week after week haven’t been there. Today summed that up - the inconsistencies and the frailties in the final 30 minutes.

“We’ve got a lot of scars over this season and that’s weighing heavy on us.”
