Mikel Arteta has admitted Martin Odegaard’s injury “is not looking very positive,” with Declan Rice also "not OK" after they both went off in their 2-0 Premier League win over West Ham on Saturday (October 4).

The North London club’s comfortable win over Nuno Espirito Santo’s side was somewhat dampened by the 26-year-old’s early setback.

Odegaard was replaced by Martin Zubimendi in the 30th minute after the captain appeared to have picked up a knee injury.

He is now the first player in Premier League history to be substituted before half time in three consecutive Premier League starts.

Speaking after the game, Arteta provided a worrying update after the game, saying (via Ben Dinnery): “With Martin, I think it was a clash of knees, and he’s not looking very positive at the moment.”

"So unlucky again. He went knee to knee and felt straight away something was not right. Let's assess him and see how bad the injury is. He has been very, very unlucky."

Rice, 26, was also brought off after receiving a knock, to which Arteta added: "With Declan, he was struggling with back pain and he asked me to come off. Let's see what the doctor says now and what is best for him."
