Having already lost Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali whilst being on the verge of seeing Bruno Guimarães depart, Newcastle are in the midst of a major rebuild under manager Eddie Howe.
After bringing in winger Bazoumana Touré, Newcastle have today revealed the signing of Steur on a five-year contract until 2031.
Speaking on the move, the 18 year old who Howe has said was a "top young prospect" revealed how happy he is to arrive in the Premier League.
“It’s an incredible feeling to be here. It’s a giant club in the Premier League and it was always my dream to play in the best league in the world, so this is really exciting.
“I was at home at Ajax – I joined when I was seven and I leave with only good memories, but when a club like Newcastle comes for you, it’s really hard to say no. The last few days have gone fast and I’m very happy to join.
“I’m a player who likes to get on the ball and play forward all the time. I’m happy playing between the lines and I feel I have a lot of energy in my game. I just want to win.”
The Dutch youngster, who is a creative midfielder is a player for the future rather than a straight replacement for Tonali or Guimaraes this summer.
Reports claim that Newcastle are set to pay £20m plus £3m in bonuses for the teenager in a deal that also reportedly includes a 12% sell on clause for Ajax.
