Michael Carrick is seeking 'clarity' over his Manchester United future ahead of a pivotal decision for the club.

Carrick was only hired by United in January on an interim basis until the end of the season following Ruben Amorim's departure.

But the Englishman has done an exceptional job at Old Trafford after winning 10 of his opening 14 Premier League matches, with his latest 3-2 victory over Liverpool confirming Champions League football.

Now, with many players - including Amad Diallo - publicly admitting how much they love Carrick, INEOS and technical director Jason Wilcox have to decide whether he should get the permanent role.

It's undoubtedly a huge decision, because there are no guarantees he will be successful in the long-term, but the 44-year-old is seeking 'clarity' over his future.

“For sure, clarity is important," Carrick said in his press conference ahead of United's clash against Sunderland on Saturday.

“I think moving forward, it's come the time of, at the end of the season where, I think we've finished strong, put ourselves in a good position, you know, and obviously the situation of my role and what it looks like moving forward”.

“It's just the natural time. It was always spoken about towards the end of the season, if not the end of the season. So nothing has really changed, to be honest”.

INEOS arguably need to decide sooner rather than later on whether to give him a permanent contract so that plans for the summer can be put in place.
