The England winger hasn't played a minute this season after being encouraged to find himself a new club.
However, with Liam Delap suffering a shoulder injury on the weekend, which could see him missing for six weeks, Maresca admits Sterling could come into the selection reckoning.
Ahead of their Champions League clash with Atalanta, Maresca stated: "Liam, as I said at the beginning, fortunately he's not got any fracture. That is good news for us.
"Now for how long he will be out, not sure to be honest. And then in terms of Raheem, once again it's the same thing I said about Axel (Disasi), they are Chelsea players.
"Now also we are in December, January is coming, so anything can happen. We'll see."
He added, "So we try to find a solution, knowing that Liam is an important player for us because we know that he needs to play games to get fit and better and better.
"I think that now he was a bit better compared to when he was back from injury, but now unfortunately he's again out and we're going to try to find a solution."
