Italian football legend Marco Materazzi says former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca could be perfect for Liverpool.

Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior was brought in mid-season to replace Maresca, who abruptly quit after disagreements with the board.

The Italian brought both the Conference League and Club World Cup to the club during his tenure and many supporters feel his sacking was harsh, considering Rosenior’s start so far.

With the season coming to a close, Materazzi spoke to Hajper about how he believes Maresca could slide back into the Premier League and to one of Chelsea’s biggest rivals.

“Can Enzo Maresca make Real Madrid into champions again? Yes, why not! He speaks very good Spanish because he was at Sevilla, but I think Maresca also has a good opportunity to get a job in the Premier League for next season too.

“Could Maresca be the next manager of Newcastle United? Not for me. Manchester United would be a good move for Maresca, but he’s too connected to Manchester City to make that move.

“I think Liverpool would be the best fit for Maresca. He is the perfect coach to lead a rebuild at Liverpool to create a new vision for the team.”

Liverpool’s defeat to Brighton last week was the first time Liverpool have lost 10 league games since the 2015/16 campaign as Liverpool boss Arne Slot comes under pressure as the club fail to jump into the top 4.

Currently, Xabi Alonso is in line to replace him but the Liverpool board could consider Maresca given his Premier League experience which Alonso only has as a player.
