Aston Villa have terminated the loan for Leon Bailey after a number of injuries whilst at Roma.

In all competitions, the Jamaican has made just 11 appearances for the Trigoria club after struggling with injuries which have kept him on the sidelines this season.

He only started two games out of his 11 at the club, though, failing to score a goal and providing two assists in total.

As reported by The Athletic, Roma had been paying the Jamaica international’s full salary as well as this season’s amortisation.

The Serie A side also agreed the option of buying Bailey at the end of the season for around £19M, but the decision to recall him came from an agreement from both sides, allowing the player to return to the Premier League side immediately.

The announcement was made by Villa on Wednesday morning via social media, along with a compilation of the forward.

“Aston Villa can confirm that Leon Bailey has been recalled from his loan at AS Roma.”

Bailey has made 144 appearances for Villa since joining in 2021, scoring 22 times and registering 24 assists. It is likely he will be loaned out again as he returns from injury as manager Unai Emery and his team try to find the right outcome.

Villa also have an agreement in place with Roma to sign Tammy Abraham on loan, but negotiations are tough so far as they explore all options.
