The Sky Blues are back in the big time for the first time since 2001 and Lampard was pragmatic over the level of opposition his team faced on opening night.
Lampard's previous Premier League managerial experience includes spells in charge of Chelsea and Everton - where he kept the latter away from relegation - and that nous could prove crucial to keeping Coventry in the top tier at the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
The 48-year-old is under contract in the East Midlands until 2029, but his former England teammate Jamie Carragher believes there will be bigger future opportunities for him, including potentially replacing Thomas Tuchel after UEFA Euro 2028.
"Lampard has come back from a few knocks and shown he's a rally good manager. I really hope it goes well for him this season at Coventry, but I also believe he's a future England manager.
"I'm a big believer that the England manager should be English. He kept Everton up, he brought Coventry up, he's managed in the Champions League with Chelsea.
"All of that experience will make him he manager he is. It was a brave decision to come to Coventry to replace a manager that was well respected and loved by the fans."
