Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has revealed he would not swap striker Danny Welbeck for any other player on the planet.

This season, Welbeck has 6 goals and 1 assists in 12 appearances under Hurzeler who has had high praise for the England international in his latest press conference.

Asked whether he would swap Welbeck for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, Hurzeler told the media:

“I think I wouldn’t swap Danny for any player in the world.

“Of course the media always try to reward him for the goal and that is very important. But I try to judge him on his personality.

“How important he is for us as a player, as a person. Like I always try to emphasise, he is as great connector off the pitch.

“He is a great leader off the pitch. He is a great role model. That is why we are very pleased he is here, and I think he is in outstanding shape.

“So, to answer your question, no, I wouldn’t change.”

On Friday, Thomas Tuchel will name his England squad for World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania later this month and reports are claiming that Welbeck will be one of the first names on the squad list.

This suggestion comes as Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins struggles to find form, scoring just once in 14 games so far. Welbeck will likely play behind Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane in what could be a striker force worthy of the World Cup.
