With 36 goals, Manchester City's Erling Haaland holds the record for the most goals scored in single Premier League season as he beat Shearer’s record of 34, alongside former Manchester United star Andy Cole.
However, Shearer still holds the Premier League all-time goalscoring record with 260 goals in 441 appearances in a statistic that seems almost impossible to beat without absolute commitment.
The legendary striker’s record was a goal for Kane before he made the switch from Tottenham to Bayern Munich. Kane has 213 Premier League goals to his name, leaving him 47 adrift of Shearer.
Speaking in association with Premier League betting site BetWright, Heskey revealed that he believes Kane not only reach such a target but also surpass it.
“I think so. I think so, and then come back to the Prem and beat Shearer!
“Honestly, if he came back to the Prem, there's no reason why he can't be scoring 20-plus goals a season. The amount of chances he gets and his shooting hasn't gone away. You think when you get older you might not be as sharp, but he still manages to hit that target. He still manages to create the chances.
“At 35 you still see players. How old's Danny Welbeck? You've got Luka Modric playing until 41. Why not? And even if he doesn't play regular, that's still 10-15 goals. Would it be as a starter? Probably not.”
Kane hit a total of 73 goals last season and cannot stop scoring for Germany and England. At 33 he could play for another several years, whether that will be in the Premier League is unknown.
