It’s been a challenging summer for Newcastle, with several key players leaving and Eddie Howe making the shock decision to resign just as their pre-season was getting underway.
Howe has since been replaced with highly rated German coach Jaissle, who made his Premier League debut against Liverpool on Sunday (August 23).
Newcastle were just seconds away from securing a memorable win, but Dominik Szoboszlai’s 99th minute penalty ensured the spoils were shared.
One of Jaissle’s standout performers was Wissa, who is looking to but a frustrating first season at St James’ Park behind him.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Wissa, one of Newcastle’s elder statesmen, revealed the role his new boss wants him to take.
"He's young, he's got a lot of energy. I'm really happy he's here. With the new role he's given me it's given me a lot of confidence,” he said.
“I'm one of the leaders so I need to back him. Because on the pitch you can't always hear him so I need to make sure the guys are on alert.
"The manager expects me to be a leader and lead the group. He wants me to be winning balls, making sure everyone is going forward, going for the kill, and sometimes just be calm.
“He wants me to keep up the energy. He wants a lot of energy and that's the role he gave to me and I am very happy."
