Tuchel’s decision to leave out the recently-voted England Player of the Year and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham rose eyebrows last week. Add on top the fact he left out Everton’s Jack Grealish and Manchester City’s Phil Foden, and many were left scratching their heads.
Gordon admitted that he is playing with a sense of "paranoia" to ensure his selection for the upcoming World Cup squad, as he aims to impress Tuchel each and every week.
The Newcastle star also said that those left out such as Bellingham may be struggling individually and that Tuchel must do what is best for the team going forward.
“I think they're all at different stages in their career. I think it's more about the team. We have to focus on the team. It's a team that's going to win tournaments, hopefully, so it's never going to be about individuals, and the moment we start making it about individuals we have got a problem.
"I think the last camp was probably the best I've been part of, in terms of the vibe of the camp. Everyone seemed really happy, really content, and we put in probably our best performance, and it seemed like everything clicked on and off the pitch.
“So it doesn't surprise me that the same team has been called up again. But we can't be complacent, and think that is just going to be fine from now on. We have got to better our levels again.”
Grealish, 30, has arguably been the Premier League signing of the season so far whilst Foden has seen a recent surge at City. Bellingham is returning from injury for Madrid, and Tuchel clearly thinks other squad members deserve more of a chance heading into the games against Latvia and Wales this week.
