Foster, the architect behind such projects as London's Gherkin and the Millennium Bridge is one of the lead architects on United’s new ground which has been billed as a "project of a lifetime" and is priced at around £2BN.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe's dreams to construct a "Wembley of the North" is slowly coming together as plans to construct the ground are being designed. Foster, who is considered to be one of the world’s most important living architects, spoke on the project this week:
"The fan base is incredible."
When asked if he is excited to be part of the ambitious plans for the future, he said he is ready for the challenge:
"You bet. It's a galvanising project… and so many things can naturally ride on the back of that sporting, emblematic kind of team."
"Manchester United is different and therefore its stadium's going to be different… and better, of course."
The design, which many have likened to a giant tent, is part of a larger regeneration project which Lord Foster claims could be completed in five years. United fans are waiting for construction to begin on the project that still needs mass funding to get going, but what is clear is that the club will have one of the best stadium’s on the planet in the next decade.
