New Crystal Palace boss Pierre Sage has reportedly opted against a move to retain Aston Villa forward Evann Guessand.

The French coach is looking to bolster several areas of his Palace squad this summer after agreeing a deal to bring in Oscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo.

The Eagles did have an option to keep Guessand at Selhurst Park after he joined on loan under former head coach Oliver Glasner back in January.

He scored two goals in 14 appearances under Glasner, but his future has been in doubt since the clause to sign him permanently expired during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Palace have now given their final answer.

As per the latest from the Evening Standard, Palace have told Villa they have no intention to revive a deal for the former Nice attacker, who now heads back to Birmingham for the start of Villa’s preseason campaign.

Guessand could still leave Villa before the end of September, if an acceptable offer arrives for the 25-year-old, but the club want to recoup as much of the £30M they paid to sign him in 2025.

Unai Emery’s team take on Walsall, Porto and Real Sociedad in friendly action before heading off on a summer tour of Asia.

Palace face Swindon Town and Bromley followed by a tour of Italy in August.
