Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes says his team's performance caused Liverpool to boo their own players.

United pulled off a stunning 2-1 victory over Liverpool in front of the Anfield crowd who witnessed their side lose their fourth game in a row on Sunday afternoon in what was a heartbreaking defeat.

Fernandes believes that the way his side set up resulted in the Anfield crowd turning on their own team however, in what is an interesting admission from the skipper as he spoke after the game.

"During the first half, we knew they were under pressure when they had time on the ball. Their fans were putting themselves in a difficult position because they were booing a little for them to play a bit quicker. That's how Liverpool likes to play.

"We wanted to slow down their game, and it would give us massive spaces down the middle. And we had to enjoy that. On the ball, we played very well in the first half. The second half we could have played a bit better.

"We always believe in the system, either when we win or lose the game. It's about doing the right things in the right moments.”

Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire helped Unites snatch three points as they picked up their first Anfield success since January 2016. Liverpool fans will be disheartened by the loss, which dampens their title hopes, especially after rivals Arsenal picked up a win against Fulham

Fernandes had not won a game at Anfield since joining United before Sunday, and will hope that such a performance will help drive his team forward for the rest of the campaign.
