It has been long predicted that Mbappe would take over from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and dominate world football. However, his best finish in the Ballon d'Or rankings is third (2021) and last year he finished seventh.
Trophies matter more than anything for the Ballon d’Or and reports suggest Mbappe must not only win the Champions League and La Liga but also the World Cup with France in the summer.
Even after starring as a teenager during France's 2018 World Cup triumph over Argentina, he finished just 4th due to his poor domestic trophy haul that season.
Speaking in association with Parimatch Online Casino, Saga spoke to GOAL about how Mbappe should be considered the favourite.
“He will win it. I think it is the right season for him to win it this year.
“I think the World Cup will be good with the France national team. I think he will have a good spell in the Champions League with Real Madrid.
“On a personal level, he is already ahead because he is doing well and standing in the first position. Unless he has a terrible World Cup, which I doubt, I think he will win the Ballon d’Or this season.”
Mbappe is up against the likes of Erling Haaland, Lamine Yamal and Harry Kane for the award and will need to secure a number of titles to be considered for the award where fellow Frenchman Ousmane Dembélé lifted it last season.
