Former Real Madrid and Valencia goalkeeper Santi Canizares is convinced Joan Garcia is the future of Spain.

Garcia left Espanyol for Barcelona this season and has quickly settled with the Blaugrana.

Asked if the youngster should be installed now as Spain's outright No1, Canizares told Marca: "I'm not saying it has to be today...

"Today there's no reason to change the Spanish national team's goalkeeping. Coach Luis de la Fuente is doing very well.

"Let the talent that I am supposing Joan Garcia has be demonstrated with facts, and then decisions will have to be made.

"I think it's obvious that this will fall by its own weight. If Joan García (24 years old and 1.91 m) continues with this progression, the talent he has, for me, surpasses that of the other three goalkeepers currently in the national team (Unai Simón, David Raya, Álex Remiro or Robert Sánchez).

"With goalkeepers, things happen naturally. Whether it's promotion or relegation."
