The defender's contract expires on June 30th, but after the knee injury that will keep him out of action until the end of the season, the club decided to offer him a renewal.
Barca have been negotiating with the player's agent for some time without reaching an agreement. Management no longer want the situation to drag on and have made a final offer, which they will not budge from, says Marca.
They expect a response soon and, if none arrives, will begin exploring other options.
The new deal is for two years with several performance-related bonuses. The club will pay him half of his current salary each year. However, this amount can increase depending on the number of games played.
There are specific bonuses if he plays between 30 and 40 percent of the games, another if he plays between 40 and 50 percent, and a third if he plays more than 50 percent.
