Alena quit Barca four years ago for Getafe before he signed permanently with Alaves this past summer.
The midfielder will again meet his former Barca teammates this weekend and he told Sport: "No, I don't regret it. It wasn't easy to leave the club because I'd spent my whole life there.
"But when you feel you don't have a place and that no matter what you do, you're not going to be part of their plans, it also takes courage to step forward to feel important and valued elsewhere. It's true that there was a period with (Ernesto) Valverde afterward. After the first league match in Bilbao, I started and he substituted me at halftime.
"From then on, I was n't called up for four months. I think that affected me a bit mentally, psychologically , because I wasn't expecting it. And that's when I decided to go to Betis.
"I lacked the patience, the calm to turn things around. I wanted to find a way out very quickly. These are mistakes or decisions you make when you're young , because you're eager to play, because I wanted to conquer the world."
