Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has spoken to the media as he prepares to face Wrexham in the FA Cup.

Wrexham will be aiming to pull the wool over the eyes of eight-time FA Cup winners Chelsea and reach the quarter-finals of the world’s oldest cup competition for the first time in 29 years.

Chelsea need to play like favourites

The Championship side will also hope to end Chelsea’s 24-game winning streak against lower-tier teams in the FA Cup which Rosenior will hope to continue this weekend.

Rosenior first spoke on facing the Welsh side who are aiming to make it four successive promotions this term.

"When you see a club grow, develop and come through the leagues, it is a great story. They have done a great job. Phil (Parkinson) has done an incredible job.

"It is a club that is on the rise. There is a good energy and good vibe around them, and that is hard to play against that.

"For us, it's an opportunity to win a trophy. It's what football is about. It's what the FA Cup is about. We are the favourites but we need to go and play like that."

Trophies are imperative

There is constant pressure on each Chelsea manager to bring about success as the ruthless board will not hesitate to sack a figure like Rosenior if results start to wain. Speaking on success, Rosenior says trophies are an absolute priority for him.

"It is why I am here. It is what you dream of as a player, coach or manager.

"It is what you work for, but if you focus on the trophy at the end of the season you probably aren't going to win anything. It is all about the next game, it really is.

"The players are in a really good frame of mind. The Aston Villa performance and result has given us confidence, but we need to focus on this game and make sure we come through the other side."

Rosenior heaps praise onto Joao Pedro

Lastly, one player he will be relying on to help the side to silverware is Joao Pedro who bagged 4 goals and registered eight assists across his 29 Premier League appearances so far. Rosenior says he is delighted to have a player of his calibre at his disposal.

"I've had some great conversations with Joao since I came in. Like all of the players here, he is someone with huge, huge potential and he is showing that with recent performances.

"It isn't about what I've done, it's about what he has done. He has been magnificent and I don't just mean with the goals, it's his intensity and the understanding of the press. Tactically, what he gives us is magnificent.

"If you look at the teams I manage and coach, we try to create as best chances as possible for our nine, which is normally in the middle of the goal and six-yards out. It was really pleasing to see the goals that we scored against Aston Villa, I know they were tap-ins, but he was in the right place at the right time.

"It is really exciting for us to have a player at his level performing the way he is at the moment."
