City have failed to reach the EFL Cup final just once in the six previous instances of winning a semi-final first leg as they prepare to take on the Magpies on Wednesday night.
The game will take place at the Etihad, where City have won 14 of their 18 home games in all competitions this season.
However, despite all signs pointing towards a win for Pep Guardiola, his side have several injuries that could hinder his chances of reaching the final.
Firstly, winter signing Marc Guehi is unable to play in this tie, due to not being registered before the first-leg of the semi-final.
Guehi’s absence adds to other defensive woes which include Josko Gvardiol (tibial fracture), John Stones (thigh) and Ruben Dias (thigh) who will all miss the clash.
To fill the gap, Nathan Ake could fill in alongside right-sided centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov or youngster Max Alleyne in what is a shaky backline.
In midfield, City will be without Mateo Kovacic (ankle/heel) whilt in attack the likes of Savinho (unspecified), Jeremy Doku (calf) and Rayan Cherki (other) are all missing which leave a bare-bones City side to face Newcastle.
Newcastle have only prevailed in three of their 16 matches on the road in all competitions but will fancy their chances against a weakened City side who look vulnerable.
