Steven Gerrard is reportedly in the running for an EFL managerial position, just weeks after declining an approach from Rangers.

The 45-year-old turned down the opportunity to return to the Scottish giants earlier in the season following the dismissal of Russell Martin.

Rangers have since hired Danny Rohl, and now Gerrard is being linked with an opportunity back in the English Football League.

According to the Scottish Sun, the Liverpool legend has emerged as a ‘contender’ to take over at Middlesbrough.

The Championship side are on the hunt for a new manager following Rob Edwards’ decision to take the Wolves job, jumping three months into his first season.

Gerrard has been out of work since he was sacked by Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq back in January.
