After featuring for the likes of Luton Town, Carlisle United and Partick Thistle, Deans finished his career at Adelaide City where he won the Australian Cup before hanging up his boots in the 1980.

The striker went on to score 89 goals in 198 appearances for Motherwell and 124 goals in 184 appearances for Celtic in a career that some players can only dream of.

In a statement, Motherwell said: "Deans will be remembered fondly for his exquisite goal scoring form at Fir Park.

"He passes away aged 79 years old, and our thoughts are with his family and friends during this incredibly sad time.

"Rest in peace, Dixie."

Deans represented Scotland twice and fans have flooded social media with messages about the striker as many share clips of his impressive form in front of goal which would rival many modern strikers.
