Guardiola felt his players showed the effects of fatigue after their Champions League win over Napoli in midweek, which sparked fury amongst fans and pundits alike as they begged the Spaniard to not make up excuses for his side.
“Hats off to the team, their resilience. To score is so difficult when you’re not effective at high pressing, you’re not effective in the build-up.
“The mindset has to be strong but we have a lot of fatigue with the same players, we have you know how many injured.
“People don’t realise, the game against Napoli was so emotional and then you have to travel four or five hours to London. Yes, I am complaining about the schedule.”
Former United captain Keane, speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports, responded furiously as he ripped into Guardiola, who he thinks is talking nonsense after what was a poor result.
"Pep Guardiola is on about the fatigue and the challenge to win league titles, but that is part of the challenge.
"Im surprised Pep is talking about fatigue and schedules in September, and after two home matches. They were fairly comfortable against Manchester United and Napoli had a man sent off after 20 minutes, and it's not like they have travelled from Russia or Poland after a tough away game. I didn't like that angle Pep was coming from."
City next face Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday in what looks like a simple game on paper for Guardiola. However, if his team is still fatigued he may have to rotate and use other assets off the bench including fresh faced academy stars.
