Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola feels it is inevitable that Newcastle United will eventually transform into title contenders.

However, after knocking Newcastle out of the FA Cup, Guardiola says it won't happen overnight for the Toon.

Guardiola said: "Newcastle? For many years, with the new owners and especially with Eddie Howe, of course they are team to be there. They are a Champions League team. Look where they are.

"This season, they have had a lot of injuries and have played every three days or four days. Maybe in 10 years they can be like City right now, always being there.

"I remember when Man City was taken over, and our owners could not qualify out of the group stages of the Champions League. Little processes at a time, as much as they are reliable, the problem is in modern football, when you play in all competitions you have to have players fit.

"When you don't have that nobody can survive it is impossible. The Premier League is tougher than ever, the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League means more games, every game is tougher.

"When you have that you can only pray and survive. Of course we have the organisation to do it."
