Alexis Mac Allister’s father has weighed in on recent Real Madrid transfer links, advising the Liverpool midfielder "do what he thinks best" regarding his future.

Mac Allister, 26, scored the only goal as Liverpool earned a morale boosting Champions League win over the Spanish giants on Tuesday (November 4).

Real Madrid may end up having the last laugh, however, with the midfielder heavily linked with a move to the Spanish capital.

Several reports have suggested that Real made a move this summer but were unwilling to match Liverpool’s £88 million asking price.

Carlos Mac Allister, the midfielder's father, has now weighed in on the rumours in an interview with AS, suggesting that his son has no reason to look for a new club.

"I read the rumours, but that’s all they were," he said.

"There were no contacts. In any case, it’s always nice when my son is linked with the biggest clubs in the world. Real Madrid is a very big club, but so is Liverpool, and we must be responsible and respect the institution he belongs to and that believed in him.

"I have to be prudent. He plays for Liverpool now. In the future, if the opportunity arises and it’s appropriate, he’ll have to make his own decisions," Carlos explained.

"That’s what I’ve raised them to be. I have the freedom to give them my opinion, and they have the obligation to do what they think is best."
