Jose Mourinho couldn't help but aim a sly dig at the Newcastle fans after his Benfica side were well beaten at St James' Park on Tuesday (October 21).

Benfica travelled to England for the second consecutive Champions League game, losing again with Newcastle securing 3-0 win.

Anthony Gordon scored the opener before fellow winger Harvey Barnes came off the bench to score a brace for Eddie Howe’s side.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Mourinho, in classic fashion, couldn’t but take aim at the Newcastle fans for the lack of atmosphere at their famous ground.

"In the second half the second goal kills the game and then after that, it was easy for Newcastle to play and easy for the fans to enjoy,” he said. 

“But to be honest, the atmosphere was just nice, not difficult and beautiful in the sense of fair play, no problems, good referee, no disciplinary problems. In that sense I think it was a quiet St James'."
