Ekitike has missed the World Cup after suffering a rupture of the Achilles tendon during Liverpool's Champions League defeat by Paris St-Germain back in April.
The Frenchman left the pitch at Anfield on a stretcher and reports state that his earlier return date will be around Boxing Day as he prepares to miss the first half of the new campaign.
As fans waited eagerly for updates, the Liverpool Echo revealed that Ekitike has been working to an individually-tailored training programme and has been in California with physiotherapist Berengar Buschmann.
Buschmann posted clips of Ekitike’s recover on social media, with the videos showing stretching, testing his knee and working out in the gym via several exercises designed to strengthen the Achilles in an effort to be able to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.
Ekitike joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt last July and quickly became one of their standout performers in a difficult season for the club, with 17 goals and six assists in all competitions.
It remains to be seen exactly Ekitike could return but as recovery looks to be going well, he may be back in the side under new manager Andoni Iraola in early December.
