PSG were worthy 2-1 winners in Montjuic, with De Jong insisting afterwards it was a good exercise to see where they stand in terms of being European contenders.

He said, "It was a good game to see where we are.
"We are a ‘top’ team in Europe too, but today they won. There is a lot left in the Champions League and it is not a decisive match."
Teammate Eric Garcia also said: "Last year we started losing in Monaco. This year we started winning away from home and we knew that this was a very difficult game.
"Obviously we wanted to win, but I think we had two very difficult rivals and we have to continue."
