Former Brazil international David Luiz etched his name into Champions League history after scoring for Pafos in their 2-2 draw against AS Monaco.

The veteran defender powered a brilliant header into the top corner to level the match, cancelling out Takumi Minamino’s early fifth-minute opener.

At 38 years and 218 days, Luiz became the second-oldest scorer in the competition, behind only Portuguese defender Pepe, who scored for FC Porto at 40 years and 290 days in December 2023.

Luiz last found the net in the Champions League in October 2017 during his second spell with Chelsea, in a 3-3 draw with Roma at Stamford Bridge.

He played a key role in the Blues’ 2012 title-winning side, he also featured for Paris Saint-Germain in the competition.
