Liverpool legend John Arne Riise has suggested that Bournemouth's Antonie Semenyo would be perfect to replace Mohamed Salah.

Following Liverpool's 3-3 draw against Leeds United on Saturday, Salah said he feels he has been "thrown under the bus" after being dropped to the bench for their past three matches by manager Arne Slot.

This had led to many speculating around his future, with reports stating that the January transfer window will be the time for the winger to depart. Bournemouth’s Semenyo is among those considered to be a straight replacement as the transfer saga heats up.

Speaking to footitalia.com, Riise was asked if the 25-year-old could be a promising new recruit at Anfield.

“I mean he's on fire and he's a tricky player to play against and he would suit Liverpool. Obviously we like to play with wingers taking on players and beating them. We have Cody Gakpo doing that at the moment, but adding Semenyo to that would be perfect.

“He’s a great type of player that we need to sign if something happens with Salah. But even if Salah stays, we are lacking that typical wide winger at the moment. Regardless of Salah’s future, he’s absolutely a player we should be looking to sign in January if we can.”

The 33-year-old was left out of the squad that travelled to Inter Milan for Tuesday's 1-0 Champions League win and interest from the Saudi Pro League is growing at a rapid pace.

Semenyo is said to have a release clause in his contract that can be triggered at £65 which is likely to be triggered by the Reds if Salah does decide to depart over the next month.
