The Egyptian, 33, has not started any of Liverpool’s previous three games and has been an unused substitute in two of them, which led to a fiery interview at the weekend which made countless headlines.
Salah said he felt like he had been "thrown under the bus" by the club, who are out of the title race this season before the Christmas break. The winger took part in Liverpool training on Monday as speculation grows around whether he will make it into the Inter Milan squad.
Liverpool will lose Salah in a week’s time as he exits to the Africa Cup of Nations to represent Egypt. Speaking to Snabbare, Petit has suggested that Salah needs such a break from the Liverpool’s squad which he feels disconnected to.
"Since Mohamed Salah’s new contract with Liverpool, he is not the same player anymore. Salah is not there anymore at Liverpool. The Africa Cup of Nations will be very important for him, playing for his country.
"This competition is so important on the African continent. So this seems something that could be refreshing for him and he can show everyone that he's still Mohamed Salah, one of the greatest African players ever."
Liverpool will name their travelling squad for the Inter Milan clash later on Monday afternoon, before Slot will face a press conference at the San Siro this evening. Salah is expected to be out of the side which only adds fuel to the fire ahead of the January window.
