Following an incredible seven years at Liverpool that included winning the Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League, Origi has experienced a downward spiral since leaving Anfield in 2022.
The Belgian striker has only made 58 appearances in the past four years, and saw his contract at AC Milan terminated in December 2025, 600 days after his last appearance.
Widely remembered for scoring that goal against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals in 2019, Origi will always be held in high regard by those on Merseyside, and he's now sent a message on social media after hanging up his boots.
"My purpose in the game is fulfilled," he wrote on X. "I lived out my childhood dreams, played on the biggest stages, won the biggest trophies. Grateful to God for all of it.
"To all my fans, the clubs, my teammates and my family: this will forever be ours. Thank you. The mission is complete. Now I step into my next calling. More of the journey to come.
"Love, Divock Origi."
Origi hints at staying in professional football in some capacity at the end with "more of the journey" to come, so it will be interesting to see whether he goes down the coaching pathway or perhaps into punditry.
