USA U18 national team captain Bryan Gallego has committed himself to the University of Akron it has been reported.

The New York Red Bulls youth academy player and Kinnelon senior has chosen Akron after seeing five of the first eight picks in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft come from the Zips set up.

Expansion franchise Portland Timbers took forward Darlington Nagbe at pick two, DC United selected midfielder Perry Kitchen next, Chivas USA took defender Zarek Valentin at four, Kofi Sarkodie went to Houston Dynamo at seven and Michael Nanchoff landed at Vancouver Whitecaps at eight and Gallego is keen to be the next Akron player to be taken in the 2012 draft.
