Santos have had to wipe out their successful women's team to cover the wages of Neymar.

The Brazilian ace is a confirmed target for Real Madrid and Barcelona, but penned a new deal worth €15 million-a-year to stay with Santos late, last year.

Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro confirmed it was due to the new Neymar deal that both the women's team and indoor sala setup had to be scrapped.

"Keeping Neymar was a gesture of great daring (...) but has a cost. Winning titles is more expensive due to wages and it would be unbearable not cutting costs," he said.
