Barcelona and Chelsea have also expressed interest in the 23 year-old Holland international, while AC Milan are being linked this week.
Indeed, Itasportpress.it says Milan will try for Van der Wiel at the end of the season - but United are leading the race for his signature.
Van der Wiel has admitted this is likely to be his final season in Dutch football.
