The Saints have beaten a number of Championship sides to Dobbin's signature, including Middlesborough.
The forward has never played a match for Villa since making the £10 million move from Everton in 2024.
He spent last season on loan at Preston where he netted 11 times in 41 appearances for North End.
It comes as Southampton prepare for another season in the Championship, having been kicked out from the play-offs after spying on Middlesborough at their training ground in May.
