Salah helped Liverpool to victory over Brighton on Saturday in his final game before he joins Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations squad.
The striker was returning after being dropped for the Champions League win at Inter Milan for talking against manager Arne Slot and club management following last week's draw at Leeds.
After the 2-0 win, Van Dijk emphasised that he wants Salah to stay;
"Of course, I told him I want him to stay," said Van Dijk afterwards.
At the same time, he highlights Salah's importance to the team.
"I would love to have him around me because he is one of the leaders, but the fact is that he is going to AFCON.
"I wish him all the best. We will be in contact for the next few days and weeks, because we are always, and then we have to see."
