Former Arsenal star Theo Walcott has revealed the problem with Aston Villa manager Unai Emery after a very poor start to the season.

Villa currently sit in 18th place in the Premier League table, and they are still searching for their first win of the season after a crushing 1-1 draw with newly promoted Sunderland at the weekend.

Emery was frustrated after the game and ripped into his side publically, which has triggered reports about his future and the respect for him in the dressing room.

"Because we were not dominating control of the game with one player more, doing passes, making passes and taking the right moment to attack them. We were not doing it.

“We were lazy sometimes in defence really. Lazy. For example when we concede, we were lazy.

“Maybe it is the consequences, we are not feeling dominating, we are not feeling playing our style.”

While discussing Villa on Match of the Day, Walcott suggested that Emery’s squad may need a fresh voice in charge to help them get out of their rut.

“When you have a manager for so long, and I had Arsene Wenger for a long period of time, and you sometimes need a different, change of voice, or you need new players coming in.”

“It’s like they’re bored of some of his decision-making at times,” he added.

“He’s calling players lazy - trust me there’s going to be a few not happy with that.”

Emery’s future at Villa is hanging by a string. If results do not improve over the next few weeks, he may have to find a new club as the board search for somebody who can turn the club around.
