The Northern Ireland star was part of the Black Cats that preserved their unbeaten home run in the Premier League to ten games.
Hume didn’t fall short of acknowledging the importance of the Stadium of Light faithful throughout the game.
“It’s never in doubt how good the fans are. They are always going to push us. They are with us every step of the way so it’s great to keep the unbeaten run going,” he told club website.
“We know how good of a side they are. We played them a couple of weeks ago and they were a bit conservative.
“At our place, it’s a completely different game with the fans behind you.
“We got after them to win the ball back and we had a few chances. They had chances themselves but I think that everyone that played along with the substitutes were excellent.”
