Liverpool boss Arne Slot is just 12 months on from securing the club’s 20th Premier League title but remains under pressure after a dire season so far with The Reds.
The board are backing Slot until the end of the season, but reports suggest that if results do not improve in the coming weeks, he will be let go as links grow towards Klopp and former midfielder Xabi Alonso.
Smicer spoke to football betting site BetVictor about how if Klopp is contacted by the side, he will be unable to say no in what would be an emotional return.
“He's very charismatic and unbelievably popular with the Liverpool fans. It was great to be near him, to speak to him. I had a few chances to discuss things. It was fantastic.
“He's very funny, he has good humour, and always brings a great atmosphere with him. It was fantastic to see him back. Because of him, the stadium was full as well. I think people love him at Anfield and it was a great day.
“If you ask anyone in Liverpool if Klopp should come back one day, everyone will say yes, of course. He has something special with the Liverpool fans, the city, and the football club. That's for sure, definitely.
“I think if he wants to return, it will be difficult to turn him down. Actually, I think it's impossible. I think we will see him back one day.”
The champions have lost 10 of their 31 league matches and are now fighting to secure a place in the top four. If they fail to reach Champions League football and are also knocked out of Europe, Slot may be let go.
Slot is nearing the final year of his Liverpool contract after signing a three-year agreement in 2024 and Klopp may be eyeing a return ahead of the new season in a move many fans would welcome.
