Newcastle host Tottenham tomorrow night, with Spurs having lost at home to Fulham on Saturday. During that 2-0 defeat, home fans turned on goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for being caught out for Harry Wilson's goal.
Asked about the jeers for the Italian, Howe said this morning: "I have said before that while the game is going on and the players are playing, the only thing I ask from the Newcastle supporters is that they encourage and support the players because it is a very tough environment at the best of times let alone when you are being criticised by your own.
"I have to say that our supporters, I can't speak highly enough of. In my time here they have been incredible in that respect. They have supported the players, they have been with them.
"That's all you can ask really. We are as one, we are a team. Supporters, players, staff, we are all connected. We are all fighting for the same thing and full respect to our supporters for how they have handled the players."
