Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has backed forward Benjamin Sesko to succeed at the club after signing this summer.

Manager Ruben Amorim's decision to start Sesko on the bench for Manchester United's trip to Fulham was questioned by many as United relied on Mason Mount to fill his spot in what was another toothless performance from the side.

United struggled for goals last season with the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee misfiring in front of goal. Sesko’s debut came from the bench in the season opener against Arsenal and he featured in the second half again the Cottagers and failed to make an impact.

Despite many questioning his ability, Maguire has defended the young striker who he believes has a lot to bring to a United side who sit 16th in the Premier League.

"He’s a unit for his age. I’m sure he’s going to cause a lot of defenders problems. He’s still young, but he’s got all the attributes to contribute to the team and to contribute to this club for many years to come, so we’ll give him our full backing and, fingers crossed, he scores many goals for us."

The Slovenia international, 22, has been eased into life in the Premier League by Amorim who believes he needs time to adapt to a United side who desperately need a striker. United paid just under £74M and are yet to fully implement him in to the side who face Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup on Thursday night.

United have won only seven of Amorim's 29 games in charge in the Premier League and the Portuguese head coach needs a win against The Mariners this week to shrug off any reports that he could be on the verge of being sacked after such a poor start to the campaign.
