Liam Rosenior was sacked this week after defeat at Brighton, where the former manager slammed the players' efforts on the night.
Bent told talkSPORT: "Liam is not without blame, of course.
"With the tactics and certain the way he approached the game and trying different things, the three at the back, I get all that.
"But at some point, players have got to take responsibility."
Before adding: "The players are the ones who can get managers fired, so they take most of the blame.
"Listen, if you go into a dressing room and you're a manager, rightAnd then, I don't know, 60 per cent of the squad are having you and the other 40 per cent are not because you're not playing them, there's nothing the manager can do."
