Recent reports have suggested that the 27-year-old has a preferential release clause of €60 million for Spanish trio Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid.
With Tottenham currently sitting in 17th and fighting for survival in the Premier League, it’s expected that Romero will be one of several players to jump ship in the summer.
Speaking to Cadena 3 about the rumours, Victor Romero, father of Cristian, admitted the defender’s exit is progressing.
“It’s a bombshell that keeps getting bigger. I hope it’s true; as a Belgrano fan and a father, what more could I want, but I don’t know anything," he said.
"Cuti isn’t one to make statements, that’s why it surprises me.
“He has two more years on his contract with Tottenham and a very high release clause. The English club isn’t going to let him go for free; it’s between $50-70m.
“For me, they’ll want to recover what they invested.”
