New AS Monaco coach Sebastien Pocognoli has revealed Paul Pogba has returned to the training pitch.

Pogba, who has not played competitive football for two years due to a doping ban, joined Monaco over the summer and was working towards a playing return targeted for last weekend before he suffered an injury setback.

A strain picked up in training at the beginning of October saw ASM put back Pogba's comeback date. However, the former Juventus and Manchester United midfielder is now back in training.

Pocognoli said:  "The path for Paul Pogba is to proceed step by step. Yesterday (Monday) he trained with the group for the first time since I arrived.

"He was smiling, having fun, interacting with the other players. This is the first stage."

He also said:  "It could last a few days, two or three weeks, and then we can build on that to build performances and consistency. That's the situation, and I'm happy to see him on the pitch."
