It was announced on Wednesday that an official LaLiga game between Villarreal and Barcelona will be played on December 20 at the Hard Rock stadium in Miami.
Laporta said upon the announcement: "We look forward to reuniting with all our fans in the United States and thank LALIGA for the opportunity to visit one of the Club's key strategic markets.
"We've been visiting the country for many years and have always sensed the passion that FC Barcelona inspires. As a global club with millions of followers worldwide, this opportunity reinforces our commitment to our international fans, especially in a key market like the United States.
"An official match in a city like Miami, with a large Barça community, will undoubtedly be a great spectacle with two teams competing at the highest level."
Meanwhile, LaLiga president Javier Tebas stated: "With this match, we are taking a historic step that elevates LALIGA and Spanish football to a new level. We understand and respect the concerns this decision may generate, but it's important to put it in context: this is just one of 380 matches that make up the season.
"LALIGA represents millions of fans around the world, including many who passionately follow their teams and deserve the opportunity to experience them live at least once. This match aims to bring our football closer to this global fan base without compromising our commitment to those who experience it in Spanish stadiums every day."
