Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has issued a firm response to Hansi Flick’s criticism about ‘egos’ at the club, insisting reports about his off-field behaviour are false following the draw with Rayo Vallecano.

The 18-year-old scored the opening goal against Rayo Vallecano from the penalty spot before the hosts equalised in the 67th minute.

Flick, who was furious with the result, urged his squad to abandon their ‘egos’ warning that selfishness could ‘kill success’ after the game.

Yamal, however, pushed back in a candid interview with RTVE, saying: "I think it has more to do with the fact that we didn't start the season with the intensity we had at the end of the last one, rather than the egos in the dressing room.

“After a draw, you come out of a bad mood; in the end, you have to win."

The youngster was involved in several off-field controversies throughout the summer with his 18th birthday party resulting in a police investigation.
