Crystal Palace had expected to sign Solomon and submitted a deal sheet before the 7pm deadline on Monday in order to work on the final negotiations.
However, the move soon after collapsed and with the Spanish deadline not falling until 11pm, it opened the door to Villarreal.
Solomon, who spent last season on-loan with Leeds United, joins Villarreal on a straight loan with the LaLiga club covering 100 per cent of his wages.
